Fine Receipt Document Signed to James Vernon, Teller of the Exchequer, for £90, being 6 months' interest at 6% on £3,000 lent to the Exchequer on 26th April 1705, printed with MS additions, 1 side 14¼" x 9½", 17th January 1706, new style

The interest was to be paid from the "two thirds tonnage and poundage" on "wines and merchandizes imported", and the document is endorsed "Ent[ered] Tunnag[e]". Sir Richard was a son of Sir Josiah, governor of the East India Company. In 1715 Sir Richard built Wanstead House, famous for its enormous 260ft frontage.
