ROBARTES (Hon. Russell, Teller of the Exchequer 1710-1714) and Charles MONTAGU (1st Earl of Halifax, 1661-1715, Auditor of the Exchequer)

Signature 'Robartes' on lower portion of a Treasury Order of 29th June 1710, for future repayment of a loan of £400 [at 6%], bearing a note to Robartes to repay the principal and £28 9s 5d interest to 5th September 1711 out of the Malt Duties, also signed as "Examined" by Charles Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax, Auditor of the Exchequer.2 sides 6¼" x 10", [Exchequer], 7th December lacks upper portion, narrow remargins on three sides

Montagu had been the prime mover in establishing the Bank of England, 1694. With the receipt signature of the lender 'Henry Durley' on verso, and a note 'Delivered to the Bank by me this [31st, crossed out] first day of December 1711 [? by mistake for 1st January]', signed George Thornhill.
