GARTH (George, d. 1819, as British Colonel led the Connecticut Coast Raid with 1500 men, 1779, General 1801)

During the American War of Independence he moved from Colonel in February 1779 to Brigade Commander, Connecticut Coast raid in July. In September he was appointed to Replace Prevost in Georgia and he was then captured by the French aboard the Experiment off Georgia and exchanged. He served as Major-General in the West Indies and was promoted to General in 1801.
