Stockholm, 5th August 1909
The undersigned the Royal Danish Ambassador begs to request the Royal Danish Customs Authorities to allow the wife of the Turkish Minister here, Madame Assim Bey, who will shortly be travelling to the Continent via Denmark, all the relief at the Customs compatible with the rules in force.
[Signed] W. Sponnock

Assim Bey was appointed Ambassador to Sweden by the 'Young Turk' government following the revolution of 24th July 1908. He had long been known for his belief in the necessity of reform. In 1910 he was transferred to the sensitive post at Sofia, accredited to the new independent kingdom of Bulgaria, and, on the strength of his experience there, made Foreign Minister in 1911. See The Times, 10th October 1911, p. 3 (reference kindly supplied by Prof. G.R. Berridge).
