MOORE (John, 1730-1805, Canon of Christ Church, Oxford, 1763-1771, from 1783 Archbishop of Canterbury)

Autograph Letter Signed to 'Dear Sir', apparently Dr. Edward Bentham, (1707-1776), from 1754 Canon of Christ Church, explaining that he "was sent for to Blenheim this morning on some business", adding that "as soon as the Season will allow of our going to Bristol", as Dr. Lewis advises, "I shall accept your assistance with great thankfulness. Mrs Bentham's intention of calling on my wife is very kind but it is so necessary for her to be quiet & still", 1 side 4to., no place, no date, c. tiny defect in blank corner

Moore was private tutor to the sons of the 2nd Duke of Marlborough. The Duke employed him from time to time to report on candidates for the Duke's political patronage (see Moore's letters to William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland, in the British Library).
