HAVELOCK (Sir Henry, 1795-1857, K.C.B., Major-General, 1st Bart.)

Signature on a small fragment of a letter, the verso mentions a "[Fi]eld Hospital", with his portrait engraved by Charles Holl "from authentic portraits in the possession of the family", showing him half length in uniform with decorations and the Order of the Bath, no date, c. 1860, the signature c.

During the Mutiny Havelock recaptured Cawnpore after winning four victories and marching 120 miles in 9 days. He died just after relieving Lucknow for the second time.
