GUSTAF V (1858-1950, from 1907 King of Sweden)

Finely typed document signed, in Swedish with translation, to the President of Peru, José Luís Bustamante Rivero, (1894-1989, President 1945-1948), acknowledging the letter recalling Dr José Ortiz de Zevallos from his post as ambassador, saying that the ambassador has constantly striven "to maintain the friendly relations which so happily exist between Sweden and Peru" and has so gained "Our esteem and confidence", signed also by Östen Undén, (1886-1974, Foreign Minister 1924-1926 & 1945-1962), 1 side 13¼" x 8¾" and conjugate blank, Stockholm Castle, 22nd March two neat filing holes and a few brown specks in blank left margin

During the first world war, Gustaf V initiated talks with the other Scandinavian monarchs which led to their preserving their neutrality. During the second, his nephew Count Folke Bernadotte was active in securing the release of prisoners from German concentration camps.
