Autograph Letter Signed to Colonel D.F. Franklin,
saying he is "glad you are interested in our Regt." and will send "the book ... with all the records I possess ... We still have the 'Flag' they carried at Fontenoy - I hope you do not think we were 'Rebels' ", he has had a letter "from the sister of the K. of the Belgians in which she mentions the Regt.", and hopes the Franklins will visit,

the writer's armorial bookplate, "the Dillon badge" from an envelope, and a note on Dillon's Regiment by Miss Franklin, together 4 items, the letter 4 sides 8vo., Tempest House, Seaham, Co. Durham, 15th November

Dillon's regiment was raised in 1653 to serve in the French army. In 1793 the 1st Battalion became the French 87th (to whom the writer's cousin has been sending WWI 'comforts'), but the 2nd was captured in the West Indies next year and bodily incorporated in the Irish Brigade of the British Army, then disbanded in 1798.
