CONSTANT (Benjamin, 1845-1902, French painter)

Autograph Letter Signed, in French with translation, to Mrs Alice Reynolds-Peyton, saying "it will be with the greatest pleasure that I will come in answer to your kind invitation next Tuesday if ... I am still in London !", but feels sure he will be, with his visiting card as Member of the Institute, inscribed in French "with best wishes", and with his autograph envelope, the letter 3 sides 8vo., Savoy Hotel, London, 'Tuesday', postmarked 13th November

Constant was an eminent portrait painter, one of his last being Queen Victoria in the year of this letter. In return the Princess of Wales (Queen Alexandra) sketched four portraits of the artist.
