SCHWEITZER (Albert, 1875-1965, Alsatian French Medical Missionary, Theologian & Philosopher, Nobel Prize Winner)

Signature on decorative programme card in French of a Matinée by "Madame Geneviève Petit and her School of Rhythmic Gymnastics and Dance", 8 numbers with music by Chopin, Schumann, Schubert, Thomé and Grieg, with a charming photograph of the Château de Pourtalès at La Robertsau on the northern outskirts of Strasbourg, signed and dated below by Schweitzer, signed also by P[ère] Loys Chaudrier, 2 sides card 6¼" x 4¼", 15th July small faint creases in two corners, also tiny closed tear in one corner

Based at this time in Strasbourg, Schweitzer was steadily recovering his health since internment, and working as hard as ever, writing, preaching at St. Nicholas' (where he was shortly to resign his curacy) and touring to raise funds for the hospital at Lambaréné with lectures and recitals. By the beginning of 1924 he was ready to return to Africa.
