Press photo, unsigned,
showing them full length as the Nun (in profile) and her sister (full face) in Julio Dantas's sketch "Roses all the Year", translated from the Portuguese by Senhor d'Almeida Carvalho, Secretary to the Portuguese Legation, for a charity performance for the Daily Graphic Free Meal Fund, 6½" x 8½", Court Theatre, London, for 25th March
two tiny marginal defects in image
The "flimsy" on the verso outlines the story, in which the sister, uncertain of her feelings, refuses to marry her suitor in England until "the roses cease to bloom". When the sister learns that the suitor is the man who betrayed the nun, leading her to enter the convent, the nun promises to send her "roses all the year" from the sunny convent garden. Dantas, poet and author, translated King Lear into Portuguese.
