[FRIEDRICH III (Wilhelm Nikolaus, 1831-1888, son-in-law of Queen Victoria, Emperor of Germany for 99 days)]

Very fine Imperial cabinet photograph, by M. Ziesler of Berlin, unsigned, showing him in simple military uniform of cap and great coat, three quarter length, nearly full face, with a warm but dignified gaze a little to the left, titled in gold below 'Kaiser Friedrich', gilt edges, 12½" x 7¼", no place,

Pictures of Friedrich III are uncommon due to his early death from throat cancer. He only survived his father Wilhelm I by three months. As Crown Prince his position was made very difficult by his opposition to Bismarck and also as his wife Victoria, Empress Frederick antagonised the Prussian people with her aggressive & tactless Englishness.
