LINDORES (Jane, née Reeve, 1759 or 1760-1837, wife of John Leslie, 1750-1813, Lieutenant-General, from 1775 8th Baron Lindores)

Autograph letter, unsigned, addressed to her husband at Gey's House, near Maidenhead, saying that her first letter "since my necessary departure" had "opened an Opportunity of your making such Proposal for a Separation between Us as you should think proper", but to no effect, she is now required "by my Proctor to furnish those minute instructions necessary ... the heavy expence of which we must both wish to avoid", she is still open to an "amicable Separation" but otherwise must pursue protection and remedy in "the Commons", that is, Doctors' Commons near St.Paul's, where the ecclesiastical judges and lawyers resided, and requests "your answer in a few days ... directed to Mr Bogg", 1 side 9½" x 8¼", address on verso, no place, May

The couple married in London on 22nd March 1789. Lady Lindores was living at Gey's House when she died in 1837.
