MARY ADELAIDE (Duchess of Teck, 1833-1897, Queen Mary's Mother)

Autograph letter signed to Mrs Bevan (Maria, née Trotter, d. 1903, third wife (1875) of Francis Augustus Bevan, 1840-1919, the first chairman of Barclays Bank), saying that "May and I shall be charmed to accept your invitation to 5 o'Clock tea ... if we may be allowed a ¼ of an hour's grace ... I shall be very pleased to see Augusta Maclagan again", wife of the future Archbishop of York, "and to have a quiet chat with you both", they are greatly refreshed by "5 weeks ... up at St. Moritz ... and the Italian lakes ... after all the fatigues of the Jubilee season", embossed crowned monogram, 4 sides 8vo, White Lodge, Richmond Park, 11th October

Mrs Bevan was a London President of the Needlework Guild, whose clothes and parcels half filled White Lodge each autumn.
