Autograph letter signed to 'My dear Madam', (Mrs Florence Horatia Nelson Suckling, 1848-1923, writer and anti-vivisectionist), admiring her "zeal in the good cause of teaching our young people to the duty & benefit of kindness to animals", she will forward her kind offer of "your lantern and slides" to "our elementary teachers", but "the terrible presence of influenza amongst the children & teachers" rules out any "'entertainments' or extra subjects", she sends her "our latest report ... to show how far the 'Band of Mercy' has taken root", but referring her "to Mr Colam & Mrs Phillips" for "more competent advice", she is sorry Partridges are "not more helpful" about "your proposed translation of 'the Duty'", Mrs Bray's book 'Our Duty to Animals', "I should have thought it would be in their interest", 4 sides 7" x 4½", Ivy Cottage, 16th February

With a note in Mrs Suckling's hand "Author of our duty to Animals etc." [1871]. Mrs Bray founded the Coventry Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in 1874.
