VICTORIA ALEXANDRA (1868-1935, Princess, Daughter of Edward VII & Alexandra)

Autograph letter signed to Captain Bryan Godfrey, R.N., (later Sir Bryan Godfrey-Faussett, 1863-1945, Equerry to George V, Edward VIII & George VI), returning "yours and Babs kind wishes ... What a terrible time we have been living through. One can but continue to pray hard ... that all may be much better soon but it must alas be slow. On 21st November the King suddenly became feverish with septicaemia of the left lung and then gravely ill, and a Council of State was appointed. The King was operated on on 12th December and the churches stayed open day and night. Only in February was the King able to go to Aldwick, near Bognor, to convalesce. Although he gave thanks at St Paul's in July, it was not till September 1929 that the wound finally healed.
