CHARLOTTE (1860-1919, eldest sister of the Wilhelm II, from 1878 wife of Bernhard III, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen)

New Year's card signed and dated, attractively printed in colours and inscribed "Wishing you a Happy New Year" within a wreath of white petalled flowers, and on the back "for dear Nanna", Mrs Mary Ann Wakelin, Nanny from about 1860 to the family of Victoria, Crown Princess of Prussia, later Empress Frederick, no place, 3rd January tiny abrasion on verso touching one letter

Mrs Wakelin went to be nurse for the birth of Charlotte's daughter, Princess Feodora, born 12th May 1879. It is said that Charlotte was the only one in her family who chose her own spouse. Sadly, both Charlotte and Feodora inherited the royal porphyria and this may have caused Charlotte's later erratic behaviour.
