BROWN (Frederick Richard, 1910-1991, Test Captain for the M.C.C.) and Lindsay HASSETT (1913-1993, Test Captain for Australia)

Delightful photograph, signed by Freddie Brown on the whites of his trousers, showing them full length in their whites and blazers, smiling as they watch the coin tossed high by Lindsay Hassett, 9" x 7¾", no place, (probably Sydney), no date but probably 5th January signature quite light, mount a trifle discoloured in one or two places, two spots at top of photo not affecting main image

Freddie Brown revitalised English cricket after the war, playing in 22 Tests, 15 as Captain. Hassett captained Australia 24 times in 43 tests, making 59 centuries in his career. At Sydney, England won the toss but Australia won by an innings and 13 runs, and took the series 4-1.
