[GEORGE VI (1895-1952, King of Great Britain) & ELIZABETH (1900-2002, his Queen)]

Charming press photograph, a fine later print by Dorn's of Red Bank, New Jersey, showing them on the platform having got off the Royal Train, the King is shaking hands with an officer, behind whom on the left is a crowd of local dignitaries in morning dress, with further troops on the right, the Queen holds a large bouquet, a most attractive print, reflecting the genuine but relaxed welcome given everywhere on the tour, 8" x 10", Red Bank, no date but 10th June apparently a later print but in splendid condition

On their North American trip, the King was the first reigning British monarch to set foot in either Canada or the United States. Their visit at MacKenzie King's and Roosevelt's invitation was of incalculable value at this critical time. Later the Queen confided to MacKenzie King, 'That tour made us'.
Early in June their Majesties travelled from Canada to Washington, where they spent two very full days. Over the night of Friday 9th they went by train to Red Bank, rising at 7 o'clock. After inspecting a guard of honour found by the Fort Hancock Coast Artillery they drove to Sandy Hook, where a destroyer took them over to Manhattan. They were seen by about 4 million people in New York, visited the World Fair and Columbia University, and in the evening drove 70 miles up the Hudson to stay with the President at Hyde Park. On Monday 12th they continued north, to sail home from Quebec on the Thursday.
