HOWITT (Mary, née Botham, 1799-1888, Authoress and wife of William, 1792-1879)

Autograph letter signed to Mrs Cope, (wife of Charles West Cope, R.A., 1811-1890, Professor of Painting at the Royal Academy, 1867-1875), saying her daughter (Anna Mary Watts, 1824-1884) has begged for "tidings of her picture Queen Boadicea", Mr Cope will know "how anxious a young artist feels ... if it is wrong in me to ask the wife of a 'hangman' ... pardon me - & give me no reply", they were "very sorry there were no pictures of Mr Cope's to be seen", in a P.S. she writes "We are doing wonders with our Petition business regarding Women's Property & Earnings - Nothing could have been better timed or more successful than this movement", 4 sides 7" x 4¼", The Hermitage, Highgate Rise, 26th April no year, circa
