NASH (John, 1893-1977, R.A., Painter, War Artist, Illustrator and Engraver)

Autograph Letter Signed 'John (N)' to Mrs Winifred Arnold of Little Baddow, near Chelmsford, saying "I feel I must add my thanks" to his wife's letter "for your very kind and rich gifts ... It is a mystery how you got to know ... at first [Christine] would not tell me the date & of course I had forgotten! We were married in the 1914-18 War & had no celebration & the same happened again for the Silver one in the last War ... Unfortunately Christine has been ordered to rest ...You, I take it, are heading for a Diamond Jubilee ... I often think of the old days at Bigwood and have been in touch with Bill & Honor lately. I hope you still paint. I ... have just started work again. There's no entire rest for an artist! ...", 2 sides 8vo., Bottengoms Farm, Wormingford, Essex, 29th May

Winifred Arnold attended John's courses at Flatford. In May 1970 he wrote a note for her own catalogue, "I remember her pressing me for instruction in perspective and other professional aspects ... but I fended off these requests ... objects were as she saw them and she made them conform to her vision ".
