THE PRINCES PLAY CROQUET [EDWARD VIII (1894-1972, King of Great Britain, Later the Duke of Windsor), GEORGE VI (1895-1952, King of Great Britain), their valet Frederick FINCH (1871-1953) and tutor Henry HANSELL (1863-1935)]

Group of 4 unsigned Snapshot Photographs, showing the Princes in the grounds at Sandringham, in sailor suits and knee breeches, in the first Prince Edward eyes a croquet ball, mallet aloft; in the second Prince Albert (George VI), with mallet vertical, watches his brother follow through, his golfing shot having missed the ball: in the third it is Prince Albert's turn; the fourth shows Hansell (on the left) and Finch, standing full face, in the same background, 3½" x 3½", [Sandringham], no date, circa traces of laying down by blank versos

Frederick Finch and Henry Hansell both accompanied Prince Edward to Magdalen, Oxford, in 1912, and the Prince kept Finch on as his butler. This snapshot must have come from an album in the Royal Household, probably Hansell's.
