Memorial Portrait Postcard Photograph, showing her seated in near profile, turned nearly full face, with a sweet look, wearing a white dress with lace collar, with her name and dates below, 5½" x 3½", published by Lautz & Balzar, Darmstadt, postmarked 1905, the photo no place, no date but lightly browned, greeting in German at foot of recto, the front and back of the card separated

Elisabeth and her father grew even closer after her mother had left. Tragically she died suddenly of typhoid at the hunting lodge in Poland where they were visiting the Grand Duke's sister Alix and her husband Nicholas II.
