Memorial Portrait Postcard Photograph, showing her seated in three quarter profile, turned nearly full face and gazing further to the right of the photo, wearing a white dress with a broad lace collar, with her name and dates below, 5½" x 3½" black edged, published by Lautz & Balzar, Darmstadt, postmarked 13th December 1903, the photo no place, no date but circa a little light browning, greeting in German at foot of recto, faint offset of part of a postmark on recto

Elisabeth and her father grew even closer after her mother had left. Tragically she died suddenly of typhoid at the hunting lodge in Poland where they were visiting the Grand Duke's sister Alix and her husband Nicholas II.
