Unsigned Portrait Postcard Photograph, by Paul Winter of Darmstadt, showing them nearly full length, nearly three quarter face, the Princess standing looking at the book held by her father, who is seated on an X-shaped chair, a cross added after the Princess's name below, 5½" x 3½", published by Lautz & Balzar, Darmstadt, postmarked Grünberg 1st December 1903, the photo no place, circa a trifle browned, one corner defective touching one letter of correspondence in the margin of recto

Elisabeth and her father grew even closer after her mother had left. Tragically she died suddenly of typhoid at the hunting lodge in Poland where they were visiting the Grand Duke's sister Alix and her husband Nicholas II.
