POWELL (Dilys, 1901-1995, Writer and Film Critic)

Autograph Postcard Signed to George M. Richards of Poole, Dorset, saying she finds his remark "about the Sillitoe boy in the story being gratuitous mischievousness rather than driven by the events of his life as in the film, most interesting. But I still like the film", apparently 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner', released in 1962, on the recto is a photo of the 'Relief of the Running Hoplite' of the 6th century B.C. in the National Museum at Athens, 4" x 5¾", postmarked Paddington, London, 18th October

Dilys Powell's first husband, H.G.G. Payne, 1902-1936, was Director of the British School of Archaeology at Athens, and she had a life-long love of Greece. She was film critic for the Sunday Times, 1939-1976, and president of the Classical Association, 1966-1967.
