[FRIEDRICH III (Wilhelm Nikolaus, 1831-1888, son-in-law of Queen Victoria, in 1888 Emperor of Germany for 99 days) & his wife VICTORIA (1840-1901, Empress Frederick of Germany, eldest child of Queen Victoria & mother of Kaiser Wilhelm II)]

Pleasant unsigned Carte-de-visite Portrait Photograph by Mayall, showing them not long after their marriage, the Crown Prince is seated full length, nearly full face, his whiskers at this time much less full than later, reading a newspaper, the Crown Princess in near profile stands looking down at him and holding the edge of the newspaper, 3½" x 2½", no place, no date, circa slight water stain in small portion of blank top margin, just edging into the top portion of the image's background

Pictures of Friedrich III are uncommon due to his early death from throat cancer. He only survived his father Wilhelm I by three months. As Crown Prince his position was made very difficult by his opposition to Bismarck and also as his wife Victoria, Empress Frederick antagonised the Prussian people with her aggressive & tactless Englishness.
