[FRIEDRICH III (Wilhelm Nikolaus, 1831-1888, son-in-law of Queen Victoria, in 1888 Emperor of Germany for 99 days) & his wife VICTORIA (1840-1901, Empress Frederick of Germany, eldest child of Queen Victoria & mother of Kaiser Wilhelm II)]

Unsigned carte-de-visite sized Portrait Photograph, by Hills & Saunders, showing them seated , three quarter length, three quarter and nearly full face, looking towards the right of the image, the Crown Prince in civilian clothes, his arms folded, a little relaxed, the Crown Princess with her right hand on her husband's left arm, and wearing a dress with a richly embroidered hem, early retail stamp of W.H. Mason, Brighton on verso, 4" x 2½", no place, no date, circa neat early identification across top of blank background

Pictures of Friedrich III are uncommon due to his early death from throat cancer. He only survived his father Wilhelm I by three months. As Crown Prince his position was made very difficult by his opposition to Bismarck and also as his wife Victoria, Empress Frederick antagonised the Prussian people with her aggressive & tactless Englishness.
