HORT (Fenton John Anthony, 1828-1892, Reviser with Westcott of the Greek New Testament Text adopted for the English Revised Version)

Unsigned handwriting "Maurice's Patriarch's and Lawgivers" on piece 2¼" x 4½", with identification below by Mrs Clara Paget, wife of George Edward Paget, Regius Professor of Physic at Cambridge, no place, 11th May

Written the day before Westcott and Hort's Greek Text was published and six days before the Revised Version, in May 1881. Frederick Denison Maurice, the Christian Socialist, had been Hort's closest friend since 1850. The Horts, Westcotts and Pagets were close neighbours in St Peter's Terrace, Cambridge.
