THE QUEEN MOTHER HOUSE HUNTING ELIZABETH (The Queen Mother, 1900-2002, Queen of George VI)

Unusual Autograph Letter Signed, with transcription, to Lady Weigall (Grace Emily, 1876-1950, née Maple, wife of Sir Archibald Weigall, 1874-1952, Governor of South Australia), thanking her "so very much for your note. No, we have not seen 12 Grosvenor Square - doesn't it belong to the Pierpont Morgans ... do tell me what you think of it", the position of "Alington House ... almost bars it ... Lady Pirrie ... might not want that house now, & it does look very nice. The Duchess of Rutland is asking a huge sum, & Lord Cholmondeley's house is falling down I believe !! It really is too kind of you to take so much trouble ...", 3 sides 8vo. black edged, Curzon House, London, no date, circa

White Lodge had been prepared for the young Duke and Duchess of York, but it was cold and too large to maintain on their income, and Richmond Park was inconvenient for their many public engagements. After Curzon House they leased 40 Grosvenor Square, moved to the Duchess's parents' home at 17 Bruton Street, and finally settled in 1926 at 145 Piccadilly.
