Charming early Autograph Letter Signed "Leopold", in French with translation, to "Dear Rollêt", Mme Rollande, French governess to Queen Victoria's children, saying he hopes her husband "is getting better", he "was so sad to learn that he had been ill" and hopes "he will soon be cured. Mr Alfred Tyler came to see me yesterday, and he told me he was going to Genoa to see you", he asked "if I had a letter for you ... he is going to come again today with his wife to pick up the letter ... your very devoted friend", 4 sides 8vo., Château Leader, Cannes, 14th December some faint traces of laying down by inner edge of fourth side, not affecting signature

'Mr Tyler' is Alfred Tylor, (1824-1884, F.G.S., the geologist and brass-founder, of Shepley House, Carshalton), whose wife Isabella (c. 1823-1906, née Harris, married 1850) was a friend of the Royal Family. Mr Tylor travelled widely in France, Italy and Spain for both scientific and business purposes.
