The Coronation took place in fact on 9th August, in a shortened ceremony, owing to the King's appendicitis. It was the first to use Parry's 'I was Glad', the opening anthem as the King and Queen walked up the nave, and used ever since. In the margins are the Bible references for the words of the anthems, and occasional rubrics, such as just before the crowning, 'Here the King must be put in mind to bow his head'.
