Autograph Letter Signed 'Anstey Guthrie' to Percy VARLEY, explaining that he has "already been approached by Messrs. French for permission" to put 'The Man from Blankley's' "in their MS list for amateur performance", it is "at present in my agent's hands", but even so, "it will be necessary to obtain Mr. Charles Hawtrey's consent" who is "in America just now", so "the matter could hardly be decided in time for your performance", he appreciates "you will be obliged to decide on a piece very shortly ... I am sure you will understand how I am situated", 2 sides 8vo., 16 Duke Street Mansions, Grosvenor Square, W., 23rd December crisp

Under his pseudonym Anstey Guthrie wrote 'Vice Versa', 1882, 'The Tinted Venus', 1885, and 'The Brass Bottle', 1900.
