Evocative Postcard Reproduction of his Watercolour Portrait, showing him full length, wearing a frock coat but with epaulettes and the Iron Cross, standing in thought at the famous window ('the Eckfenster') in the Altes Palais, Berlin, inside his study which is crowded with portraits on the walls and desk, also straight ahead facing his chair is a bust of Frederick the Great, the original 1885, this reproduction bears on the verso a printed typescript message from Crown Prince Wilhelm (1882-1951), signed 'Berg' by his chamberlain, thanking the recipient for their birthday greetings, published by Deutscher Kunstverlag of Berlin, 5¾" x 4¼", Berlin, 12th May (Translation)

Berliners used to gather to cheer the Kaiser, knowing that whenever the Guard marched past, he would look out. The Kaiser-Wilhelm-Palais or Altes Palais on Unter den Linden was his home for 60 years.
