Photograph by Ghémar Frères of the Painting by Julius Josephus Gaspard Starck (1814-1884), showing Leopold II, full length, three quarter face, on horseback, accompanied by high-ranking officers, the king has just removed his hat and is looking towards the left of the viewer, signed by the artist on the mount, 4" x 5¼" on photographer's card mount 10½" x 13¼", also signed and dated within the negative by the artist minor defects in blank corners of card, the image unaffected

1880 was the 50th Anniversary of Belgium's independence.
