[In German]
Most gracious Baroness,
I lay myself at your feet for your kind remembrance and for the useful present with which you have favoured me. On our next trip into the country our gratitude will shine as brightly as the storm-lantern.
With best regards from my wife I have the honour to be
Your most respectful and obliged servant
Kotzebue
Reval [Tallinn], 8th December 1881

[In French]
Dear and gracious niece,
I send you herewith two autographs for your collection.
That of General Kotzebue will interest you less perhaps than that of Lord Granville.
I knew the Governor General 50 years ago when he was a Captain in the Prussian service at Constantinople.
In his letter he tells you I have liked to oblige my young female friends for a number of years now.
I have an engagement for the 24th May, and on the 14th at the Chinese Ambassador to London's.
I renew my thanks for your hospitality. I have not forgotten its elegant style ['bon ton'].
I have not yet come across some one whom I can ask to fulfil your commission at St Petersburg.
However, the opportunity will arise.
My kind regards to your Mother
Your ever devoted
A de Berg
5th May 1900.
