PUZZI (Giacinta, née Toso, 1807-1889, Italian Soprano)

Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Marshall, in English, sending "the exact date of Mme Caradori's death" and saying that "Some friends have written to Italy for Badioli's", but that as yet she has "not been able to find out what the Casa Palatina was", 1 side 8vo black-edged, 9 Harley Street, London, 5th December no year, circa small defects in inner margin of blank side 4

Giacinta Toso was seen singing in Turin by horn player Giovanni Puzzi, (1792-1876), and brought by him to London in 1827, where she succeeded Mme Caradori-Allan at the Italian Opera. They married not long afterwards. When, after contracting rheumatic fever, Giacinta was forced to abandon her career, the Puzzi's remained in London as teachers. They also encouraged musicians from abroad and for 50 years many famous names both English and foreign attended her salons.
Rosalbina Caradori-Allan, (1800-1865), was born in the Casa Palatina, Milan, the home of her father the Alsatian Baron de Munck, and her mother, née Caradori. From 1822-1827 she was in London, (beginning with the part of Cherubino) and in 1824 married the secretary of the King's Theatre, Edward Allan (died 1862). After performing abroad she again settled in England, and in 1846 was the soprano in the first Elijah, the part Mendelssohn had written for Jenny Lind. She died near Kingston on 15th October 1865, and here Mme Puzzi is helping to settle her affairs.
