PUZZI (Giacinta, 1807-1889, Italian Soprano)

Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Marshall, in English, saying she will "be delighted to make the acquaintance of your amiable lady, only I must postpone the pleasure ... for a few days as ... I am confined to my bed with liver complaint ... however I am always at home on Sundays from 2 to 5½ ... I shall hope to be all right by Sunday week", 1 side 8vo black-edged, 9 Harley Street, London, 9th December no year, circa small defects in inner margin of blank side 4

Giacinta Toso was seen singing in Turin by horn player Giovanni Puzzi, (1792-1876), and brought by him to London in 1827, where she succeeded Mme Caradori-Allan at the Italian Opera. They married not long afterwards. When, after contracting rheumatic fever, Giacinta was forced to abandon her career, the Puzzi's remained in London as teachers. They also encouraged musicians from abroad and for 50 years many famous names both English and foreign attended her salons.
