MOUNTBATTEN (Edwina, Countess, 1901-1960, wife of Earl Louis, Chairman of the Red Cross)

Autograph Letter Signed to Miss Eleanor SMITH, asking her to "give May this letter [not present] from me at a suitable moment ... just saying how sorry I am that she is 'under the weather' but how glad I am that she has gone to London for treatment", from Dr Dix Perkin's report "there is obviously nothing basically wrong - or we hope not - but the usual fears and alarms and lack of balance ... I fear you have had a very tiring and testing time - but I think you know how grateful we all are to you for your devotion and constant support to May", ending "With warmest remembrances", badge of HMS Surprise at the head, 2 side 4to, Admiralty House, Valletta, Malta, 15th September

We think that 'May' is the Countess's younger sister (Ruth) Mary (Clarisse), (1906-1986), at this time married to her third husband, the 4th Baron Delamere.
