TECK (Francis Paul, 1st Duke of, 1837-1900, Father of Queen Mary)

Autograph Letter Signed 'Teck' to 'Your Grace', saying "We have not had an answer from Windsor, but the Princess", Mary Adelaide, (1833-1897, daughter of the 1st Duke of Cambridge), "and I think that it will be best, to have the Christening on Sunday the 17th, to enable the greater part of the family to be present", and begging him "to let me know, if that day and 4.30 in the afternoon will suit you to perform the holy Act on our Child", crowned FT in blue and gold at the head, 3 sides 8vo, Kensington Palace, 8th May

The christening of the Tecks' youngest son, Prince Alexander, (1874-1957, from 1917 1st Earl of Athlone, Governor-General of Canada), born on 14th April 1874, was in fact postponed till Saturday 11th July 1874 in Kensington Palace. This was, no doubt, because all eyes were on Alexander II of Russia, who was visiting the Queen, following the marriage of his daughter Marie to Prince Alfred on 23rd January in St Petersburg.
