[GEORGE V (1865-1936, King of Great Britain) & MARY (of Teck, 1867-1953, his Queen)]

Form of Service of Thanksgiving for their Coronation, 8 sides 4to and paper covers, St Paul's Cathedral, Thursday 29th June lacks back cover, front cover (loose) and text are complete, former light horizontal fold

A week after the Coronation, the Lord Mayor welcomed their Majesties to the City and escorted them to St Paul's, then back to Guildhall for lunch. With the Coronation on the 22nd, the Royal Progress on the 23rd (which returned via London Bridge and Southwark), this was the third of the three great processions. The King wore Admiral's uniform and the opportunity was taken after lunch to drive back through areas north of the Thames, via Islington, St John's Street and Rosebery Avenue, then west to Marble Arch and the Palace.
The National Anthem on p. 2 is interesting in verse 2 for lines 3-7. They were written by Dean Hole of Rochester (1819-1904) to replace the 'damnatory clauses' that usually follow 'O Lord Our God arise Scatter his enemies'. They include "Make wars to cease Keep us from plague and dearth Turn thou our woes to mirth ... Let there be peace".
