SCHOMBERG-51803-1.jpg
SCHOMBERG (Alexander Wilmot, 1774-1850, Admiral, Writer on Shipbuilding)

Autograph Letter Signed as Captain to Mr Naylor at Rochester, about a bill of April 1798 supposed to have been outstanding with his tailors in Chatham, the late Messrs Acworth & Matthews, and now called in by Acworth's executors, for "some common necessaries" and £5 5s in cash, he cannot think the account correct, "I sailed from Chatham in the spring of 1797, when I remember paying all my Bills & Mr Acworth's was one ... I arrived in the Downs but never returned to the Medway from 1797 to this day. I sailed for Newfoundland", he explains the unlikelihood of the items "when I had left Chatham above twelve months ... If I thought I owed ... twelve, or twenty pounds, time nor place should not prevent my paying them",
