Pair of Autograph Letters Signed to Colonel F.D. MORT, commanding the Staffordshire Volunteer Force, his handwriting, especially the capitals, displaying its pleasing curls, saying that "if there is time enough on the occasion" of the visit of the Duchess, Mary Adelaide, (1833-1897, daughter of the 1st Duke of Cambridge), "to Stafford on Monday, March the 4th, it will give her much pleasure to present the Medals for long service to the Men of Yr. Regiment, 1st & 2nd Batt.", proposing it take place at "the Railway Station, either on the arrival or the departure from Stafford, of the Duchess and the Trentham Party ... Of course you will have to communicate with the Duke of Sutherland if this arrangement will suit", (21st February), "Your proposition to have the presentation ... after Luncheon at The Shire Hall is an excellent one", but "my Doctor will not hear of my accompanying H.R.H. to Trentham", since owing to lumbago "I can neither walk well or move freely & he fears for me the Dinners and Luncheons etc.", and he sincerely regrets being "deprived of the pleasure of once more visiting Stafford ...", (23rd February), crowned FT at the head, together 8 sides black-edged, White Lodge, Richmond Park, 21st and 23rd February
