I know without your enthusiastic support the story would probably have been only a runner-up, and I feel that your many kind remarks in the review put the finishing touch to everything you have done. I only hope that the results of publication realise as substantially as you suggest they will - I think I can guarantee the industry if not the wisdom! You can imagine that I was particularly sorry to learn a few days ago that publication of THE BARON had been postponed until January - but I suppose this is on the the many little trials and tribulations that cannot be avoided. I see... that CONTRABAND is now in its fifth printing, and that IT IS EASIER FOR A CAMEL is in its third printing. Please accept my congratulations on this further success on the part of yourself and Mrs Wheatley...”, the postscript says that he has “now changed my address - due entirely to this new affluence!...”, 1 side A4, Silver Firs, Ashe, Overton, Basingstoke, headed paper, 24th October 1936, together with Wheatley’s response in carbon copy, saying that he was “very pleased indeed to have the opportunity of giving MEET THE BARON a notice in CURRENT LITERATURE, and I am only so sorry that it should have appeared in the October issue as the book is not to appear now until January... George Harrap told me of the postponement a few days later, but he said that he thought the review would do an equal amount of good as useful advance publicity...”, 30th October
