Autograph letter signed to John Ellis, (1789-1862, Chairman of the Midland Railway, M.P. for Leicester 1848-1852), telling him that it is "Electioneering first, and then culverting. Kidd[erminste]r will be about ... Septr. 3rd & 4th. It will be close, but looks well for me. The steam is up ... the will of the customers is doing the work of bribery with the publicans" in a constituency "of which more than ¼th are publicans & beer house keepers", he has no doubt "you will get well thro' the Midland meeting", he has been investing in Railways, "I think the time is come ... Midlands, Lancashire & Yorkshire, & Birmingham and Dudley", 3 sides small 8vo., Y[oxall] L[odge], Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, 22nd August
