LYSONS
(Samuel, 1806-1877, Antiquary, Canon of Gloucester Cathedral)
Autograph Letter Signed with small picture at the end to Mr Price,
thanking him for "the extract you have sent me from the Leicester Journal. It appears to have been a very interesting discovery. Some glass vessels of the same sort were found at Gloucester a few years ago in digging the foundations of the New Alms Houses in the London road, what became of them I don't know. Alas our Gloucester people have little interest for these things. We are little aware how much glass we used by the Romans ..." and then mentioning the glass in local Roman villas, "At Chedworth villa the window glass was prettily cut or engraved with ears of corn or barley", and here he has put a little illustration of the design, 2 sides 8vo., Hampsted Court, 14th March
