GUINNESS
(Sir Alec, 1914-2000, Actor)
Fine Autograph Letter Signed to A.W. Price,
of the Department of English, University of Malaya, saying he "seems to remember suggesting, at Stratford Ontario, that if the [thrust] stage was another 15 or 18 inches wider, or deeper, that it would feel more comfortable ... (purely a matter of instinct)", with a similar comment about the Crucible, "easily the best ... of the thrust stage theatres ... and, yes, as Richard III at Stratford Ont ... I ... sat dangling my legs over the edge" of the balcony, however "... I am no longer greatly in sympathy with the thrust and arena stages, though I feel the 'traverse' stage has something to offer", he begs Price not to send him 'Flower of Cities', as he "loosely put together" a duologue about London and did it with "Miss Irene Worth ... at ... Aldeburgh ... a few weeks ago ... I am sure I would be jealous and tempted to plagiarise ... ", with a carbon copy of Price's original letter about his forthcoming 'Forethrust and Arena Staging', 2 sides 4to., Sir Alec's letter 2 sides A4, 40 Smith Square, Westminster, W.1., 14th August
