Document signed in his bold hand, in Portuguese with translation, addressed to Antonio PINTO CHICHÔRRO DA GAMA, (1800-1887, Appeal Judge, Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, 1860-1875) saying "By order of the Interim Regent, in the Name of the Emperor, I am sending to Your Excellency the enclosed copy of the Decree of the 19th instant, which revoked the Imperial Charter of 15th September last appointing Your Excellency to the Post of President of the Province of Rio de Janeiro; and so, the antecedent appointment of Paulino Jozé Soares de Sousa to the Post mentioned remains in force", 1 side 11¼" x 8¾" and conjugate leaf, which bears a pencil note "Presidency of Rio de Janeiro. Notification not to take effect", Palace, 23rd October margins a little frayed touching one letter at head without loss, small ink stain at head of fold, main leaf has two light vertical creases but is perfectly legible, last four letters of signature in outline owing to original heavy inking

Typed Letter Signed, in Spanish with translation, to Lawrence A. Flockhart in London, thanking him warmly for "the cutting from the Sunday Dispatch ... I see now we have friends in common whom I greatly value, something which accentuates my fellow feeling for your expressions of solidarity and good wishes, which, I hope, will be fulfilled without delay", he continues "The Sunday Dispatch has never interviewed me, so that the reporting is pure invention, the product of the weak and dishonest mind of the journalist Osborne, who tried unsuccessfully to question me in Seville and just now in Torremolinos ... this unfounded account ... has a basis of truth only when he states convincingly that I have not abandoned the struggle", ending "I am at your service ... may I offer my best wishes and a warm embrace", 1 side 11" x 8½", Hotel El Pinar, Torremolinos, Málaga, Spain, 20th February

Arturo Iglesias Paiz, both images have messages underneath and the date, the President has presented a formal three quarters length portrait photo in black and white, and his wife has given a coloured portait of her smiling face, each 15" x 10" in matching frames 22" x 17", Buenos Aires, 17th June
