NADAR
(Gaspart-Félix Tournachon, 1820-1910, known as ‘Nadar’, French Photographer, Caricaturist, Journalist, Novelist and Balloonist)
Autograph Letter Signed, in French with Translation, to Gille
saying that “Vieusseux wants to put Villemessant’s portrait in the Exhibition. I need not remind you that we agreed to the portrait in question being exhibited and Vieusseux expects that at least there he will have due satisfaction. As he wants to have the portrait back and touch it up a bit before sending it in, let me know as soon as possible if we can take it directly from the owner...” 1 side 8vo., 51 Rue d’Anjou, St Honoré, Paris with his red printed letterhead, 25th February

NASH
(Christine, 1895-1976, née Kühlenthal, wife of John Nash, 1893-1977, R.A., Painter, War Artist, Illustrator and Engraver)
Autograph Letter Signed 'Christine & John' in her hand,
to Mrs Winifred Arnold of Little Baddow, near Chelmsford, asking "what little bird told you about our Golden Wedding? ... You can imagine the pleasure of unwrapping layer after layer ... to find the treasures inside! The Gold Coins inside the glasses, - which as it happens we are very short of ... Liqueur Chocolates ... John cannot bear sticky jam pots, I always decant ... into a pretty pot like yours", she had no idea "your eyes were so bad ... difficult for chores ... I am trying to write this letter in a large hand", she continues "What a shame about the R.A. John was on the Selection Committee this year ... more pictures than ever sent in & fewer than ever accepted. It is hard work being on the Council, but John enjoys it", they are having a very quiet celebration "with friends in Suffolk on the 30th and we will drink your health in your Gold foiled Muscatel at the week-end ...", 4 sides 8vo., Bottengoms Farm, Wormingford, Essex, 27th May

NASH
(John, 1893-1977, R.A., Painter, War Artist, Illustrator and Engraver)
Autograph Letter Signed 'John'
to Mrs Winifred Arnold of Little Baddow, near Chelmsford, saying "We were both very sorry to hear about your husband's death ... I feel terribly guilty about you as you wanted me to try & help on the exhibition before & I could not see my way to doing any thing ... Would I be right in saying in my note that you took up painting 'at a mature age'? You always seemed so active & youthful in your outlook! Shingles are bad enough", he wonders "what you will do now that you have sold your house. I go to Flatford for the Plant Drawing Course this July after an absence of 3 years" where he hopes to see "one or two of the 'old gang' ... Mrs Eppstein and others are coming", 2 sides 8vo., Bottengoms Farm, Wormingford, Essex, 18th May

NASH
(John, 1893-1977, R.A., Painter, War Artist, Illustrator and Engraver)
Autograph Letter Signed 'John (N)'
to Mrs Winifred Arnold of Little Baddow, near Chelmsford, saying "I feel I must add my thanks" to his wife's letter "for your very kind and rich gifts ... It is a mystery how you got to know ... at first [Christine] would not tell me the date & of course I had forgotten! We were married in the 1914-18 War & had no celebration & the same happened again for the Silver one in the last War ... Unfortunately Christine has been ordered to rest ...You, I take it, are heading for a Diamond Jubilee ... I often think of the old days at Bigwood and have been in touch with Bill & Honor lately. I hope you still paint. I ... have just started work again. There's no entire rest for an artist! ...", 2 sides 8vo., Bottengoms Farm, Wormingford, Essex, 29th May
