ALICE
(Princess, Countess of Athlone, 1883-1981, Daughter of Leopold, Duke of Albany, Grand-daughter of Queen Victoria, wife of Prince Alexander of Teck, Queen Mary’s brother)
Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Moore,
thanking him for his letter and “the offer of your Peace Sunday offering for the ‘Princess Alice Home’ at Slough for Totally Disabled Sailors and Soldiers. The men come there from the neighbouring counties & even from all parts of England & may stay for the rest of their invalid lives, the Ministry of Pensions allowing us a capitation grant, but that does not cover any extras that are needed to add to the comfort of these sorely stricken men, so that gifts like yours are always most helpful in carrying on the work at the Home. Will you kindly send the money to Mrs C. Woodbridge,... who is our Treasurer. Happily many men are only partially paralysed & able to get about in chairs, I am happy to say there are great hopes that several are going to be sent home permanently cured, it is all a matter of time. I hope someday you will pay the home a visit...”, 2 sides 4to., Henry III Tower, Windsor Castle, headed paper, 30th July
